How to report a stolen phone in the US
Do these five things as soon as you can.
1. File a police report
Contact your local police on the non-emergency number, or call 911 if you are in danger. Get a report number for your carrier and insurer.
2. Call your carrier
Ask your carrier to suspend the line and to block the device by IMEI. Major US carriers share stolen-phone information through industry databases, which helps stop the phone being reactivated.
3. Use Find My or Find My Device
Mark the phone as lost, display a message with an alternate contact number, and erase it remotely if you cannot recover it. Do not try to get it back yourself.
4. Protect your accounts
Change passwords for email, banking and payment apps, and sign the lost phone out from another device. Watch for SIM swap attempts and unexpected verification codes.
5. Report it here
Submit a report with the IMEI so buyers who check it on ReportMyPhone see a warning. Buyers in the US can also use the industry Stolen Phone Checker before purchase.
